Patek Philippe Cubitus: A Bold Evolution in Luxury Sports Watches

Patek Philippe, a manufacture known for its exceptional quality and iconic designs, has unveiled a new collection that promises to redefine the luxury sports watch market. The Cubitus collection, launched at the end of 2024, presents a surprising departure from the emblematic designs of the Nautilus and Aquanaut. With its bold geometric aesthetic and integrated bracelet, the Cubitus is shaking up the world of haute horlogerie, drawing comparisons with its legendary predecessors, while establishing itself as a new and angular interpretation of the luxury sports watch genre.

The new Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases reference 5822 in platinum presents a blue dial embellished with a sunburst motif and horizontal relief embossing. The grand date appears in a double aperture in an embossed beveled frame.

A new geometry

The Patek Philippe Cubitus collection marks the brand's return to square-shaped watches, a design element not seen in the Geneva manufacture's creations for the last 50 years. This new series features a square bezel with rounded corners, blending the angularity of a square with the elegance of an octagon. This distinctive design provides a modern and dynamic look, ensuring that the Cubitus stands out while maintaining classic Patek elegance.

Available in three references - steel (Ref. 5821A), steel and rose gold (Ref. 5821AR) and platinum (Ref. 5822P) - the Cubitus collection responds to a range of tastes, offering both elegant, minimalist models and more complex pieces with sophisticated complications.

Design: Geometry meets luxury

The Cubitus collection is defined by its clean, geometric lines. The square shape of the case and the exquisite design elements create a more angular and dynamic look, while preserving the essential features of the Patek Philippe language. The careful two-part construction first seen on the original Nautilus is retained, providing the same signature look that has become synonymous with the brand.

One of the most striking features of the Cubitus is its integrated bracelet. This elegant bracelet blends seamlessly with the watch case, enhancing its overall aesthetic and providing an elegant, cohesive profile. The Cubitus has a distinctive character that makes it stand out in the luxury sports watch category.

A complicated but elegant watch

The Cubitus collection is not just about aesthetics; it also features some fascinating watchmaking advances. For example, the platinum version (Ref. 5822P) features a Grand Date complication, adding an element of complexity that will appeal to the most demanding collectors. For their part, the steel and steel and gold variants (Ref. 5821A and 5821AR) offer a simpler 3-hand and date configuration, but still display the precision and craftsmanship typical of Patek Philippe.

As with all Patek Philippe watches, the movements in the Cubitus collection reflect the brand's dedication to excellence. The watches are powered by in-house calibers, offering exceptional reliability and precision.

The two Cubitus 5821 references, with date and time, are powered by caliber 26-330 S C. This automatic movement with central rotor is a fine, technically classic movement with stop seconds, Gyromax balance, Spiromax spiral and a frequency of 4 Hz. The power reserve has a maximum of 45 hours. Its finish includes an exclusive Cubitus rotor decoration with the same horizontal motif as the dial.

For the Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases, Ref. 5822P, with a composite bracelet, Patek has developed a new version of the emblematic Caliber 240 with micro-rotor, for which it has filed six patent applications. The Grand Date, a large date display with two juxtaposed, instantly jumping disks, like the day and moon phase indications, with all of them jumping instantly and simultaneously in 18 milliseconds at midnight, using the energy accumulated throughout the day.

This new 240 PS CI J LU caliber maintains the 38-48 hour power reserve of all 240 movements. The indications can be adjusted by means of correctors inserted into the case flanks, or via the crown. However, the Cubitus 5822P has the possibility of correcting all the indications (including the time and day) at any time of day without the risk of damaging the movement. The movement is regulated in a range of -1/+2 seconds/day, in accordance with the new manufacturing criteria since spring 2024.

A bold step forward

The Cubitus collection is an unequivocal statement from Patek Philippe, signaling the brand's confidence in experimenting with new forms while maintaining the high standards of luxury and quality craftsmanship for which it is known.

In short, the Cubitus collection represents a bold new approach for the brand, revealing a watch that is set to become a new icon in the world of luxury sports watches.

The new square case of the Cubitus model reference 5821/1 in steel, with its rounded corners, exudes a distinguished and elegantly slim style on the wrist. The horizontally embossed dial features a fine sunburst olive green color. The steel bracelet is equipped with a lockable adjustment system and a patented Patek Philippe fold-over clasp ensuring both comfort and security.
